The NCEA focuses on output driven research projects aimed at meeting client and industry needs and is active in the following key programs and theme areas. Program 1: Irrigation and Natural Resource ManagementThemes: - Irrigation Application, Storage and Supply Systems (IRRIGATION).
- Water Resource Planning and Management (WATER RES).
- Sustainable Soil Management (SUSSOIL)
Program 2: Agricultural and Bio-Systems EngineeringThemes: - Precision Agriculture. (PREC AG)
- Agricultural Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions (ENERGY).
- Smart Technologies for Rural Industries and Environmental Management (TECH)
Project expenditure in the above program areas during 2009 totalled $1,5 million. This is a good index of Project activity and was 18% up on 2008 figures. Of this 72% reflects salary expenditure. An indication of the distribution of project activity across theme areas during 2009 is given in Figure 1 below. Program 1 (Irrigation and Natural Resource Management) represented 72% of activity.
