  • Water Resource Planning and Management
  • Sustainable Soil Management

Program 2: Agricultural and Bio-Systems Engineering

Themes
  • Precision Agriculture and Livestock Farming
  • Agricultural Energy Use and Greenhouse Gas Emissions
  • Smart Technologies for Rural Industries and Environmental Management
Program 3: Groundwater research group (GReG)

Themes
  • Field studies in the farm-catchment-region scale
  • Numerical modelling of fluid flow, solute transport and heat transport in dynamic aquifer systems
  • Geochemical evolution of groundwater

The NCEA are implementing a long term investment strategy to grow areas of opportunity and increase our capabilities in these theme areas. NCEA reserves are being used to underwrite a range of initiatives, in particular funding of post doc and engineering research positions. A total of 4 new research staff appointments were made during 2011 with a further 4 to be made in 2012.
